Ubisoft: We’re Confident Nintendo Will Take Steps To Ensure The Wii U Is Successful

Although EA made it clear that it has no games in development for the Wii U, another top dog in the video game industry plans to continue supporting Nintendo and its latest console. A Ubisoft spokesperson told GamesIndustry International that, as with any new console, the Wii U needs time to grow an established base. Ubisoft has numerous games that are scheduled to be released on Nintendo’s Wii U, including Rayman Legends, Watch_Dogs, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Splinter Cell Blacklist.

“As with any new console, it takes some time to grow an established base. Ubisoft has a varied and high-quality line-up for Wii U, with more big titles on the way including Rayman Legends, Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag and Splinter Cell Blacklist. We’re confident that this will help in continuing to attract gamers to the Wii U system and that Nintendo will take steps to ensure that the Wii U is successful in the market.”

----------------

that's nice of Ubisoft to say that, but if you release those games on other consoles, then people just going to get it for other consoles since most people own ps3/360 or both(even though some games can be played on the gamepad).... You need to make some of the games exclusive to the wiiu to attract customers not only first party games but third party games as well.

Could There Be A Mario Kart And Sonic Racing Crossover On The Way?

Sumo Digital‘s Executive Producer, Steve Lycett, has supposedly hinted that SEGA mascot Sonic will be a playable character in the next Mario Kart game, or in a racing crossover between Mario and SEGA characters. Earlier this month, a Twitter user suggested that a Pac-Man World Rally and Sonic Racing crossover was in the works, to which Lycett replied by saying that he was thinking there are ‘bigger’ rivals than Pac-Man. This vague statement has lead people to speculate that Lycett was referring to gaming icon Mario.

@blazehedgehog I was thinking there are bigger rivals, but I’ll bear it in mind

We already know that EA has no games in development for the Wii U, but what does the publisher think of the console? Bob Summerwill, a Senior Software Engineer and Architect for the company, went on Twitter today to voice his opinion of Nintendo’s latest console. According to Summerwill, ‘the Wii U is crap, it’s less powerful than the Xbox 360, it has a weird tablet and a poor online store.’ Summerwill went on to say that, at this point, Nintendo is ‘walking dead.’ Although he deleted some of his outspoken comments from his Twitter account, you can view screenshots of them on IGN.

Nintendo UK Launches 3DS Hashtag Campaign

Nintendo UK has kicked off a social media campaign for the 3DS by asking you a simple question: what is your reason for owning a Nintendo 3DS? The company launched a YouTube video, which you can see above, profiling the extensive list of titles that are currently on the portable handheld, as well as upcoming exclusives. And in a bid to chug away on the 3DS hype train, Nintendo UK has created a hashtag for fans to add their #3DSreasons over Twitter. But with such an exciting list of titles coming to the 3DS in the future, does the handheld need such an advertisement? In the meantime, what are your #3DSreasons? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.

Thomas Was Alone Creator Responds To Nintendo’s Claim To YouTube Ad Revenue

Yesterday we reported that Nintendo was filing content ID matches against those who generate Let’s Play videos with Nintendo-owned content on YouTube – taking a chunk of ad revenue from users on the website. Adding fuel to the fire and sparking up another bucket load of controversy is Thomas Was Alone creator Mike Bithell, claiming that Nintendo is ‘doing it wrong’.

The indie developer shot to fame over YouTube after his puzzle platformer title ‘Thomas Was Alone’ was featured on Total Biscuit’s WTF series – a first impressions programme showcasing an array of titles from indie to triple A. Speaking on his blog over at Develop, Blithell slams Nintendo’s reasoning and says that it will, ultimately, hurt the company in the long run. A portion of his statement is featured below, do you agree with him?

“Nintendo seems to be taking a very literal approach to the scene. ‘This guy is making money from videos of Mario, that should be our money’. That is phenomenally silly.

“The guy in question is most likely not making much; even the big guys only get a tiny amount of money by international hardware company standards. Nintendo really, really doesn’t need their cash. By taking these sums away, they are massively dissuading them from continuing to make content from their game.

“But why should they care about losing an LPer? Well, put bluntly, marketing. The audience of these videos are an excitable, tribal group that go out and spend a great deal of money on the games talked about.

“I’ll close with an example from Thomas Was Alone’s sale history. The game launched in July on direct sales, and in November on Steam. The following Christmas I ran a 50 per cent off sale, which was doing rather well. And then, on January 1st, Total Biscuit did a WTF video about the game. Thomas sold eight times more units than on launch day. In a matter of hours, I was outselling Assassin’s Creed 3 on Steam.

“Nintendo. You’re doing it wrong.”

EA Confirms No FIFA 14 For Wii U Due To ‘Disappointing’ FIFA 13 Sales

Earlier this week, EA – one of the largest video game companies in the world – announced that it has no games in development for Nintendo’s Wii U console. And, of course, this means that the next installments in the popular FIFA and Madden NFL series, which are due to be released this year, will not be coming to Wii U. An EA spokesperson told Eurogamer that the reason FIFA 14 will skip Nintendo’s console is because FIFA 13 sold poorly on Wii U.

“Six months ago FIFA 13 was a launch title on Wii U. Although the game featured FIFA’s award-winning HD gameplay and innovative new ways to play, the commercial results were disappointing. We have decided not to develop FIFA 14 on Wii U.”
