  11. The Raspberry Pi is now being produced in the UK, at an electronics plant in South Wales, after a deal was struck which enables the foundation behind the device to maintain its low price point. The machine will now be fabricated at Sony's UK manufacturing plant in Pencoed, passing all of Sony's stringent ethical sourcing and construction standards. 30,000 Raspberry Pis will be produced at the plant a month under an initial contract, with some others still being made abroad. Previously, UK tax laws on electronic components had prevented local manufacturing, but six months of negotiations have cleared the way for a domestic contract which will create at least 30 jobs. source:gi.biz For those who aren't aware, the The Raspberry Pi is a miniature marvel that shows just how small and cheap you can make a working computer. However, the device could benefit from having more memory at the risk of bumping the price up a bit. Currently retailing at £30 including delivery in the UK. Pros: Low cost, small size, built-in GPU supports 1080p video output Cons: Restricted memory size, needs additional hardware and software to function full info can found here - [Hidden Content]
  12. Nintendo is touting New Super Mario Bros 2 is the best-selling video game of August. According to NPD numbers, the cross-platform THQ's Darksiders 2 is the number one, but Nintendo insists that New Super Mario Bros 2 is the winner when you count only single SKUs. It's an important start for Nintendo as Super Mario Bros 2's release also marked the launch of the new Nintendo 3DS XL hardware. Nintendo 3DS hardware sales increased more than 36 percent over sales in July, while software sales increased more than 68 percent. "Software sells hardware, and no one sells either quite like Mario," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "In addition to helping New Super Mario Bros. 2 get off to a great start, Nintendo 3DS XL is driving increased interest in titles such as Kid Icarus: Uprising, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D and Mario Kart 7. Combine these titles with the upcoming Paper Mario: Sticker Star and a robust list of third-party games, and Nintendo 3DS is poised to be high on holiday wish lists this year." source:gi.biz
  13. Famed video game developer John Carmack has expressed his personal interest in bringing Doom 3 BFG edition to multiple platforms. Carmack admits that it is something he would love to be able to do, but admits that the development team just hasn’t got the time. “I wish that we could deploy this (Doom 3 BFG Edition) on a bunch of other code bases. I love platforms…I love looking for the fun things to do on different ones. I’ve been bringing up quietly at a bunch of the meetings, “You know, we could make a Vita version, a Wii U version, an iPhone/Android version.” All of these would be reasonable platforms to take this technology. …We do have a very busy development schedule and nothing else is really planned for that.” source:mynintendonews Doom fans sound off!
  14. As once speculated by our good selves here at DU in the E3 aftermath, More New Super Mario Bros U information has emerged from the latest issue of Game Informer which confirms that the game will feature a world map that’s extremely similar to the one found in the Super Nintendo classic Super Mario World. New Super Mario Bros U will feature a seamless world map. The map can be panned around and explored at any time and features multiple branching paths that let you choose which way to go. The mid-world fortresses are guarded by Boom-Boom, and the end-level castle is guarded by Koopalings. Game Informer spotted 7 worlds: Acorn Plains, Sparkling Waters (tropical), Frosted Glacier, Layer Cake Desert (complete with melting deserts), areas similar to Forest of Illusion and Sky World and a world surround by a tornado. Fresh from the latest edition of Game Informer comes the news that New Super Mario Bros U will feature a new challenge mode called Boost Mode. When players embark upon Boost Mode the level you’re on will automatically scroll, which forces you to move at speed. This newly incorporated mode will clearly be a true test of your reflexes. source: mynintendonews
